Mallorca has the Cabrera Archipelago Maritime and Terrestrial National Park, 3 Natural Parks (S´Albufera, Cala Mondragó y Sa Dragonera) and 47 Natural Areas of Special Interest.
The variety and wealth of Minorca's natural, ecological and environmental resources have been recognised by UNESCO declaring it a Biosphere Reserve in 1993, thereby including it in a worldwide network of unique selected sites. The nucleus of the Reserve is the Grau Marshland Natural Park and its area of influence is Colom Island, Cape Favaritx and el Prat de Morella, and the lagoon and grassland of Albufera. The Minorcan Reserve has another 18 enclaves declared Natural Areas of Special Interest by the Balearic Parliament.
The island of Ibiza has nine Natural Areas of Special Interest. It is worth mentioning Es Amunts de Ibiza in the northern part of the island; Ses Salinas, the salt-flats, which are a continuation of those on Formentera; they also cover the various islets that separate the two islands; and some coastal areas, which include coves, cliffs and capes of outstanding natural beauty.
In order to film in parks and nature reserves it is always necessary to study the viability of filming in relation to its impact on the physical surroundings, vegetation and wildlife; it is advisable to consult the technical staff at the Regional Environment Ministry's Biodiversity Office or the Mallorca Island Council's Environment Office, depending on which park or nature reserve has been chosen for the film. It is also recommended to contact the park's Director before applying for permission to film, as they have to approve any activity that takes place in the park they manage.
